What is Humic Fulvic Acid?
Humic Acid is the general term used to identify the combined Humic and Fulvic Acid material found in soil. They are a concentrated blend of all the minerals and trace elements found in an immense array of organic plants. Humic and Fulvic Acids are also referred to as Compounds or Minerals. Some leading scientists have dubbed Humic Acid, “The Missing Link” because of its unique and remarkable health enhancing properties. It is rapidly being recognized as one of the key elements in many outstanding health and scientific Breakthroughs of the 21st Century.
Humic Acid is formed in soil when microorganisms break down plant matter in a process called humification. While much of our natural Humic Acid has been stripped from the commercial growing fields (see The Disappearance of Humic and Fulvic Acids), geologists have discovered a soil strata, which only exists in certain parts of the world. This strata, known as a humic deposit, has the highest concentration of Humic Acid found anywhere in nature.
Not all deposits are alike!
Trace Botanicals® sources its Humic Acid from the remains of prehistoric humate deposit that was once a pristine freshwater rainforest. This strata in the earth was formed after millions of years of microbial decomposition of its plants and vegetation and then buried - safely protected from modern toxins such as pesticides, herbicides, industrial waste and the like.
A healthy body requires the intake of vitamins, minerals, and essential acids such as amino, folic, lactic, citric. Many experts now believe Humic Acid is one of the most vital and complex acids we can consume. It is also considered the most bio-ionically transferable natural material in the world, making it nature’s most powerful, original health enhancer.
Humic and Fulvic Acids contain many nutritional phytochemical groups, including natural sterols, ketones, hormones, polyphenols, and fatty acids, as well as phytochemical subgroups of compounds such as quinones, flavonoids, isoflavones, flavones, flavins, catechins, tannins, and tocopherols. These compounds are some of the most recognized anti-cancer nutrients known today.
Humic and Fulvic Acids also contain a vast assortment of naturally occurring bio-chemicals, including powerful antioxidants, phytochemicals, free-radical scavengers, super oxide dismutases, nutrients, enzymes, hormones, amino acids, antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals.
Like Water and Oxygen, Humic and Fulvic Acids are required for life, yet they cannot be produced by the body - they must be consumed. Furthermore, the two major life functions which cannot be duplicated by man are Photosynthesis and Humification. Humic and Fulvic Acids are so complex, that although there has been many attempts, chemists have never been able to successfully recreate it in a laboratory.
How Do Humic and Fulvic Acids Work?
In a nutshell, Humic and Fulvic Acids work together to bind, transform, transport, and eliminate other particles. Fulvic acid mainly transports particles, while humic acid mainly binds particles. This functionality allows your cells to receive and absorb vital nutrients faster and easier, detoxify the body of heavy metals and other pollutants, and help fight against viruses (see Viruses). Let’s explore this further…
The human body is not designed to absorb and use minerals in metallic form. It can only absorb these minerals when they have become bio-available, a process called “chelation,” which means to transform or bio-chemically bind. Humic/Fulvic Acids are nature’s best organic chelator. Humic and Fulvic Acids dissolve nutrients, coenzymes, hormones, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and natural antioxidants (from both food and supplements) into the simplest ionic form, making them ready to be utilized by the body more easily and efficiently.
It then binds these materials, transporting them through the body and depositing them directly into cell. Not only does Humic and Fulvic Acid bind organic materials (which are delivered to the cell), but it also binds inorganic materials, such as heavy metals (which are transported out of the cell and body).
Fulvic Acid is so powerful, that it can transport up to 60x its own weight in dissolved nutrients, minerals, vitamins, enzymes and trace elements. It also allows nutrients to inter-react with each other and extend the time those nutrients are available to the cells. Nutrients delivered by Humic and Fulvic Acids are unsurpassed in quality, bio-efficiency and electrical potential.
Humic Acid and Fulvic Acid work together to remove unwanted salt acids that surround & harden cell walls, restoring cell permeability. This helps to enhance the absorption process by enabling minerals to pass through cell membranes more easily. Better permeability of the cells also aids in the removal of toxic waste more readily.

Powerful Electrolyte, Antioxidant, and Free Radical Scavenger
Humic and Fulvic Acid is one of the finest natural electrolytes known to man. It is the electrolyte that enables our cells to absorb nutrients and it acts as a multi-directional antioxidant. It stimulates cellular function by encouraging cells to bio-react electrically with one another. This produces catalytic reactions, electron transfer, and chelation of new minerals.
Humic and Fulvic Acids are unmatched as Multi-Directional Antioxidants and Free Radical Scavengers. They have the unique ability to react with both positively and negatively charged unpaired electrons. To understand what this means, we need to understand how free radicals work:
A free radical is an atom or group of atoms that have unpaired electrons. This causes them to try and steal an electron from a neighboring molecule to stabilize itself. Once a free radical forms and it succeeds in gaining another electron from a nearby molecule, it leaves its victim short an electron, making it now a free radical. The new free radical will in turn try to steal an electron as well. The result is what we call a free radical cascade, an enormous chain reaction of free radicals that quickly wreaks havoc on living tissue. It is estimated that the chain reaction can trigger 6.023 x 1021 billion molecules to react per second!
Free radical damage can leave tissues injured and destroyed, increasing the chances that the injured cells will become susceptible to infections and disease, or mutate and cause cancer.
Because Humic and Fulvic Acid can react with both negatively and positively charged unpaired electrons, it can determine what a free radical needs, rendering it harmless to other cells and body functions. If it encounters a free radical with an unpaired positive electron, it will supply an equal and opposite negative charge to neutralize the bad effects of the free radical. Likewise, if the free radical carries a negative charge, it will supply a positive unpaired electron to nullify that charge.
Humic and Fulvic Acids will determine if the free radical can be transformed into a bio-available nutrient based on its chemical makeup. If it cannot benefit the body, the free radical is chelated, mobilized, and carried out as a waste product.
Because of its ability to react with more compounds than any other antioxidant in nature, Humic and Fulvic Acids are considered to be more powerful than other well known antioxidants such as Vitamin C, CoQ10, and Vitamin E.
